Barcelona vs. Alaves

In a match that was closer than anticipated, Barcelona handed Alaves a 3-0 loss in Spanish Copa del Rey play. Alaves had won their last four matches before being over-matched by Barcelona.
The two sides meet again on November 28th.
Alaves is a mid-tier Spanish team, playing in the Second Division B. They don't have the talent or firepower to hang with one of the top teams in La Liga.
David Villa scored the only goal of the first half, and late at that. He gave Barcelona a 1-0 lead at the 40th minute with a rifle-shot off his left foot that just found its way past the keeper.
Cristian Tello eventually subbed in for Villa midway through the second half.
Andrés Iniesta added another score early in the second half at the 51st minute. As hard as Villa's shot was, Iniesta sent a rainbow into the corner of the goal.
The goal was primarily the result of great ball movement, but Iniesta's bend was a thing of beauty.
Jonathan Dos Santos subbed in for Iniesta, but much later than most expected, as Iniesta played 20 minutes beyond scoring his goal.
The scoring was rounded out with a gift for Cesc Fábregas with a minute remaining in regulation. He took a high pass and headed it home as Urtzi Iturrioz was late getting over to close off the net.
Barca opted to sit some of their top talent, such as Lionel Messi. This match was a great opportunity to provide some experience for younger players.
